Our History
1888
The Beginning of a Landmark
Stanley Park officially opened in 1888, and Prospect Point quickly became one of its most celebrated viewpoints. From its earliest days, visitors were drawn to the spectacular vistas overlooking Burrard Inlet and the North Shore Mountains.
1923–1938
A Gateway to Vancouver
Prospect Point played an important role in Vancouver’s maritime history with the construction of a signal station for vessels passing into Burrard Inlet. The opening of the Lions Gate Bridge in 1938 transformed the area into one of the city’s most iconic destinations.
1948–1950s
A Favourite Place to Gather
The Prospect Point Lighthouse was built in 1948, followed by the opening of the Prospect Point Tea Room. Together, they established the site as a beloved stop for sightseeing, dining, and taking in the view.
2014–2016
A New Chapter Begins
Capilano Group assumed stewardship of Prospect Point in 2014 and soon launched a $3.5 million revitalization project to preserve the landmark while enhancing the visitor experience.
2017–Today
Reimagined for a New Generation
Prospect Point reopened in 2017 with thoughtfully renovated dining, retail, and gathering spaces, continuing its legacy as one of Vancouver’s most iconic destinations. Today, Prospect Point is entering a new chapter with The Point, a West Coast-inspired event space that brings new life to the historic setting.
